Set atop a large cliff, this home enjoys eagle’s nest views over the valley – and it was imperative the swimming pool didn’t detract from this, but rather maximised the panorama. To achieve a see-through effect, a glass feature wall was installed, which is approximately 400mm in height and runs the full length of the pool. It enables the views to be enjoyed from the alfresco areas and the home’s interior spaces.
Designed by the builder, the reinforced concrete, rectangular-shaped pool is 9m x 4m and fully tiled in aqua hues. Light grey, natural stone was chosen by the owner for the surrounding coping.
The cliff location and the discovery of a large cave section which had formed in the rock meant underpinning of the rock face approximately three metres below the pool was crucial. Because of the geotechnical issues, a structural engineer provided guidance during the underpinning and pool excavation phases. Access was another challenge, and the builder had to protect existing stairs and decking to enable excavation equipment to be used.
